MND today announces that its subsidiary LST, a cable transport specialist and reputed ropeway designer and constructor, has been awarded the contract to renovate the Montmartre funicular railway by Paris public transport operator RATP. For LST, this is a major icon in the world of urban cable transport, as the funicular is the busiest in the world, carrying around four million passengers a year.
The three-year contract covers the complete overhaul of the two machineries of the funicular lines and major inspections of the two cars.
One of the many challenges involved in this highly technical renovation operation is to ensure continuous service during the work, which will be fit into a very narrow time frame between the end of the Montmartre harvest festival in October and the start of the Christmas holidays. The project therefore requires tight planning of on-site operations.
