"Azteca to copy Colombian IPTV/OTT model in Peru

by Hernán Amaya | March 19, 2014 The Mexican operator Azteca (Grupo Salinas) might offer in Peru similar IPTV/OTT service model which will be launched in Colombia during the second semester, after won the auction to build a national optic fiber network.

This new service could be a mix of both technologies, taking advantage of the FTTH network. The company would broadcast channels via IPTV and other signals via OTT. In Mexico, the company offers Pay-TV only via IPTV through the Totalplay brand.

The national optic fiber network that Azteca is planning to build will be 13 kilometers long and will cover 339 population centers, summing up 80% of the total country territory. The Peruvian government will invest USD 760M for this project which will be made in six stages (the first one to be finished on September 2014) and has to be concluded by the end of 2015.

The company part of the Grupo Salinas, continues its growth in the region registering important operations in three countries (Mexico, Colombia & Peru). ¨Azteca has presented a solid progress on developing telecommunication projects which improve the life quality of the Latin American population¨ said the company in a recent statement."
