AALO May 16: With Arunachal Pradesh poised for a big leap to expand its tourism sector, key issues pertaining to apprehensions over the setting up of hydroelectric projects in Mechuka and other parts of West Siang district were addressed during marathon meetings at the administration’s conference hall here Tuesday. The meetings, between tourism parliamentary secretary PD Sona, ADC Kanki Darang, representatives of power developers and project affected people, was aimed at sensitizing the stakeholders with the GoAP’s policy and incorporating the aspirations of the people to involve them in the process of development. During the meetings with representatives of Velcan and JP groups, Sona complimented the administration for conducting the public hearing for the Neying hydropower project, and appealed to the people to take a long-term view of the benefits that would accrue from the projects that are aimed at hastening the economic development of the backward areas and benefiting the state and the nation as a whole. He asked the power developers to accommodate the locals’ interests and sentiments, and to involve local technocrats in their engineering wings.
