OL GROUPE : SPORTING PERFORMANCE TO DATE AND PROGRESS ON THE NEW STADIUM
Lyon, 28 October 2010
The Board of Directors of OL Groupe met on Wednesday afternoon, 27 October 2010 to take stock of the professional team's sporting performance and of progress in the new stadium project.
The Board looked at the professional team's results in the season so far and noted in particular that:In Ligue 1, OL is in 14th place, behind its end-of-season objective to qualify once again for the Champions League. Nevertheless, the Board appreciated the significant improvement over the last month, with victories over Nancy and Lille, notwithstanding the tie with Arles-Avignon, In the Champions League, OL is in first place with three victories in as many matches, a performance only four major European clubs can match (Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Real Madrid) and better than any other French club. As a result, the team may well qualify for the first knock-out round of the competition for the eighth consecutive time.
On numerous occasions, the Board of Directors has consulted with the entire club management, technical staff, professional players and with Bernard Lacombe, and determined that the professional team as a whole is adhering to the club's strategy. At the same time, it has asked for certain changes in organisation, preparation and communication.
Meanwhile, through dialogue with fan clubs, principally Kop Virage Nord, a certain number of potential changes have been identified.
Based on these consultations, the Board of Directors has unanimously renewed its confidence in CEO Jean-Michel Aulas. It has asked him once again to be more directly involved in managing football strategy, in liaison with General Manager Philippe Sauze, so as to bring the on-the-pitch objectives set for Manager Claude Puel closer to fruition.
The Board noted with satisfaction that all of the club's "families" are ready to act in the club's favour and would like to thank fans for their support during matches and in particular during this difficult period.
Jean-Michel Aulas thanked Board members for their support and confirmed that he is more determined than ever to ensure that OL regains the standing it deserves in all of the competitions in which it is involved, given the resources that have been mobilised.
Concerning the new stadium, the Board has decided to start the next phase of the project: interviewing general contractors that could participate in the design and realisation of the project, with a view to making a selection in early 2011. The selected group of companies will work on the project alongside Olympique Lyonnais, the architectural firm Populous, the urban planning firm Buffi and the engineering firms E2CA and Ingerop.
