Lyon, 24 August 2010
Olympique Lyonnais has reached an agreement with Girondins de Bordeaux to transfer Yoann Gourcuff to Lyon. The French international is to sign a long-term contract with OL after completing his medical exam in Lyon.
The terms of the transaction were negotiated on the basis of the player's release clause, which expired on 31 July. They include:a flat fee of ¤22 million to be paid in three instalments between now and 31 December 2012; an additional amount of up to ¤4.5 million, contingent upon a future transfer of the player by Olympique Lyonnais.
Olympique Lyonnais is very pleased to announce the arrival of Yoann Gourcuff. Both the club and manager Claude Puel had targeted him to give a new dimension to the OL side's midfield, now that the team's offence has been strengthened by another French international, Jimmy Briand.
OL is also pleased that Yoann Gourcuff, named the best French player of 2009, wanted to continue playing in the French Ligue 1 rather than respond to foreign solicitation.
The transfers of Yoann Gourcuff and Jimmy Briand bolster OL's ambition. The club has held on to its principal internationals and has integrated several promising young players into the professional roster, including six internationals from France's U19 side, which won the European championship in July.
