Le Groupe La Poste, the French post office group, the number one employer in France, second largest postal services group in Europe and number four in the world, chose Steria to carry out the migration of all its IT resources of its corporate, postal and general public network entities.
This new modernised IT system is to be centralised and secured and will be a strategic tool of the French post office group in implementing its future projects.
After a migration phase lasting 16 months which was completed in April 2007, the new infrastructure is now operational and is running as a recurrent service. Two mainframes, 1,733 servers and 870 network items were put in place on two secure industrial sites with total success, without any interruption to the service.
This project is the follow-up to a similar project grouping together IT production resources on a highly secure platform which was carried out by Steria for another major entity of the French post office group.
Steria developed a unique method of managing server migrations that has been tried and tested and is based on the ITIL standard, and which ensued from capitalising on its experience gained in the course of large-scale projects. Thanks to this method, Steria is now one of the leaders of server migration projects of IT sites, providing its clients, such as the French post office group, with an industrial turnkey offering.
“The migration and the grouping together of our servers on two state-of-the-art industrial sites involved very high stakes for the French post office group, in particular in terms of the security of our IT systems. This complex operation entailing thousand of pieces of equipment was carried out within the planned timescale in a totally transparent manner for the users, and throughout the project the requirements of continuous services was fully respected,” said Mr. Michel DELATTRE, DSI French post office group.
