Steria, a leading provider of IT-enabled business services, today announced that it is the only international IT services company in France to receive an "A" rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project in the 2010 Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI).
In achieving the highest rating, Steria stands shoulder-to-shoulder with companies such as BT, Cisco and Nokia, who also received an A rating in the Carbon Performance Leadership Index. Steria is one of only three companies to achieve the A rating in the France 250 report, alongside Lafarge and Renault.
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) was launched ten years ago to encourage companies to report on carbon emissions. It holds one of the largest databases of corporate climate change information in the world. The CDP questionnaire has been sent to over 4,500 of the world's largest companies in 2010.
John Neilson, Head of Steria Group's Green Committee and Green Business Community said, "Last year, we achieved one of the highest disclosure scores for an international IT services company, establishing us among the leaders in sustainability in our first year of participation with the CDP. Not only have we boosted our score by a further ten per cent to achieve a total of 89% this year, but we are also ranked amongst the top three French companies in the global Index".
Neilson continued: "We are delighted to be recognised by the Carbon Disclosure Project and applaud their efforts towards creating a knowledge base that provides transparency and opportunities for continued understanding of carbon emissions."
Sustainability is a fundamental pillar of Steria's corporate responsibility strategy. This includes the exploitation of green IT to reduce carbon footprints; tracking and monitoring efforts to reduce carbon emissions; and harnessing the company's integrated approach to service delivery to tackle projects of social and environmental significance, locally and internationally.
Paul Dickinson, Executive Chairman of the Carbon Disclosure Project, commented:
"Companies in this new Carbon Performance Leadership Index are demonstrating leadership in their commitment to manage greenhouse gas emissions. Companies which manage and reduce their emissions, maximise business resilience and capitalise on opportunities, will be the best placed to succeed as we move towards a low carbon economy."
