GROUPE STERIA : In the UK, the Ministry of Justice selects Steria for 5-year shared services contract

In the UK, the Ministry of Justice selects Steria for 5-year shared services contract

Steria today announced it has been selected by the Ministry of Justice as its delivery partner for business applications development, implementation and maintenance as part of a wider shared services programme. Under the five-year contract, Steria will implement an Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system that will serve as a common operating platform across the department and, in the future, its associated agencies.

The Shared Services Programme will provide back-office functionality and support the Ministry of Justice in delivering efficient, high quality back-office operations to enable the department to deliver efficiency savings estimated at ¤31m (£28m) per annum by 2013, and to produce accurate management information reporting across the Ministry of Justice. Steria will work closely with the in-house team to consolidate multiple legacy data systems and introduce self-service capability for staff. Steria's core solution will be built around Oracle E-Business Suite R12, to provide the portal, case management, document management and management information solutions necessary to achieve the delivery of automated, self-service and minimal touch processes.

Steria's proposal was supported by extensive experience in new applications development and value creation through shared service partnerships. For example, NHS Shared Business Services, a joint venture between the Department of Health and Steria, is on track to deliver ¤283m (£250m) in savings to the Department of Health by 2015. In addition, Cleveland Police Authority selected Steria in 2010 as its strategic partner in the transformation of back-office operations expected to deliver ¤56m (£50m) in cashable savings.

Steria has worked with the Ministry of Justice for over 15 years, including with the National Offender Management Service (NOMS), the Land Registry, and the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC).

John Torrie, CEO of Steria UK, commented, "Efficiency is the cornerstone of transformation in the MoJ and this is our third significant shared services contract in the public sector. We will work alongside the in-house team to implement an agile system that, for the first time, will provide a common operating platform across the department."

He added, "Having worked together for over 15 years, this contract will strengthen the relationship that Steria already enjoys with the MoJ."

Steria will work collaboratively with the department and its chosen partners, Accenture and Savvis in the implementation of the Shared Services Programme. Accenture and Savvis are respectively responsible for the systems integration and infrastructure-as-a-service platform.
