Steria Mummert Consulting has been awarded the first contract in the call for tender for the introduction of an electronic patient's card. Steria will be working on behalf of Gematik (Gesellschaft für Telematikanwendungen der Gesundheitskarte mbH) to develop the necessary Broker services for this project. This contract highlights the company's leading role in eHealth in Germany.
The project is a result of the Law on the Modernisation of the National Health Insurance System. The law provides for the migration of the current health insurance card into an electronic patient's card. The federal government and Gematik see the system's implementation launch as an important milestone. Consequently the transposition project is linked to an ambitious timetable.
The Broker Service acts as a connecting component in the centre of the telematics infrastructure and ensures the routing and administration of information out to all services concerned. Amongst the measures included in the first development phase there is access to the master data of those holding national health insurance and also electronic prescriptions.
Steria Mummert Consulting will be relying, for its basic core technology, on components from BEA Systems. Using their "Aqua Logic Service Bus", major elements of the Broker system will be implemented with standard software. Specific add-on developments will ensure a high degree of data security. All components of the service will be designed for high availability access.
As part of the introduction of the electronic patient's card, Steria Mummert Consulting already acts as consultant to the test region Rhineland-Palatinate and the largest National Health Insurance fund in Germany.
