Global EcoPower received its first final authorization for the construction of two agricultural greenhouses with photovoltaic roof for a total installed capacity of 1.89 MWp, located in Salon-de-Provence in France.
This project involves the renovation of existing greenhouses representing an area of 15,000 m2 on a site with excellent solar radiation for an annual production of 2 450 MWh, integrating all losses and resulting in a performance ratio of approximately 80% (excluding orientation losses).
The greenhouses roofs will be partially covered with more than 6000 modules of dual-glass crystalline silicon type. The technical choice is not to cover the entire roof and to allow a pass light for a sustainable use of soil by the farmer.
Global EcoPower expects a construction start up in the fourth quarter of 2010 and commissioning early 2011. A 112 m² pilot unit, previously manufactured in Holland, is getting installed on the site. This unit will be used as a showcase for the other achievements of the group.
The different stages of project development covering all environmental, legal and technical aspects were entirely conducted by Global EcoPower.
This first project, which will benefit from a feed-in tariff of 42 c¤ / kWh, will be sold and Global EcoPower will keep the operation and maintenance of the plant during the 20 years electricity purchase agreement with EDF.
This plant will provide electricity for 1077 people and will save 245 CO² tones per year.
Philippe Perret, EVP of Global EcoPower declares: "We have reached the most exciting phase of our business which is to switch from development to concrete realization of the project. We are pleased to launch this first solar greenhouse project that perfectly combines maintaining the agricultural use of the site with producing green electricity".
The French group is a promising actor in the photovoltaic sector in France and has decided to focus its activities on development, construction and operation of solar power plants in France.
Boosted by the experience of its founders in the field of renewable energy, Global EcoPower is currently developing, within organic growth, 40 projects for a forecasted installed capacity of 300 MWp, mainly in the South of France. For these projects, mix of ground and roof-top of greenhouses, land has been secured and development process is ongoing.
The group's strategy is to keep 50% of built plants for its own account and sell to third parties the remaining 50%.
