CONPOREC : Conporec wins an important environmental prize

Sorel-Tracy, March 25, 2008 - It is in the presence of Mrs. Line Beauchamp, Quebec (Ca) Minister of Développement durable, de l'Environnement et des Parcs, and under the honorary presidency of Mr. Jacques Thivierge from ArcelorMittal Canada Inc. that Conporec Inc. recently won, in its category, the Conscientia 2007 prize awarded by the Montérégie Regional Council of the Environment (CRE-Montégérie). Recognizing excellence in environmental management and sustainable development, this prize was awarded to Conporec following the certification obtained by the Quebec Standardization Office (BNQ) for the compost produced at its sorting-composting plant of Sorel-Tracy.

Conporec's initiative aiming at the certification of its compost produced from mixed solid waste is a first in Canada. This certification was retained by the Conscientia 2007 prize jury as a remarkable and exceptional achievement for 2007. With this certification, Conporec demonstrates the great importance given to the quality of the end product produced by its sorting-composting technology. Thanks to the optimization of its process and the constant improvements over the recent years, compost quality is now certified and recognized.

"The BNQ certification along with the company's internal process control system provides our customers with a quality product, certified for its innocuity and agronomic value, while closing the loop from garbage to garden with this rich organic matter" declared Denis Potvin, Agronomist and Vice President Products and Environment at Conporec.

The Conscientia 2007 prize awarded by the Montérégie Regional Council of the Environment, once again demonstrates the relevance of one Conporec's best known technologies for responsible waste management, and furthers its position on the global market as a leading technology " added Jean Beaudoin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Conporec.
